Hope from the Truths of God's Word

A Cool Breeze for my Soul

CoolBreeze3I have to admit that I need a little encouragement every now and then.  I don’t often think to myself, “if I could just get a little encouragement around here it would be nice!”  For me, it goes more like this: I am pressing through the days, getting as much done as possible at work and home, hoping not to neglect anyone or anything and all of a sudden a verbal pat on the back takes me by surprise. I suppose it could be compared to a cool breeze on a hot summer day.

This week, I believe I got a few pats on the back from God,  a few cool breezes for my tired soul.  It always inspires me to see that God is intimately involved in my life and knows my needs. I hope by sharing these glimpses into God’s interaction with me, that you too are inspired.

  1. Answered Prayers. I’ve been praying about a challenging relationship.  The challenges have gone on for months and the prayers have too.  This past week, I began to recognize my own responsibility in the problems. (OH MY DANG PRIDE) And I have seen dramatic improvement in relationship.  Only God could correct me and encourage me on the same issue at the same time!
  2. Request by friend to be an accountability partner.  A sweet friend confided in me this week and asked me to hold her accountable in an area.  I felt/feel so honored to be trusted by her.  The invitation was a welcomed pat on the back for my soul’s doubts. These doubts are like dark rain clouds that threaten and cause you to change your plans.  Thank you God for the sunshine and cool breeze that whisked those dark clouds away.
  3. Renewed discipline. I’ve been struggling in the area of discipline specifically regarding my “to do” list. I took a step of faith and was honest about it and ask for prayer.  Within two days I noticed I was enjoying better focus and leaving work with a sense of relief that none of the work was following me home. Thank you God for more answered prayers.
  4. A knowing from God. I believe God dropped a thought in my mind and helped me realize it was from Him.  Often I don’t recognize His voice because it sounds like I am thinking those ideas/thoughts.  But this time, I had a knowing that I should pray about a specific subject for a friend and a surety that God had told me to. When I was able to pray with my friend, I knew based on her response that it was His perfect will. That our God amazingly knows someone needs His intervention, then encourages someone to ask Him for it, and then goes about creating His solution. How kind of Him to involve me in His work again.
  5. Breakthroughs in a friend’s heart.  After prayer for wisdom and revelation, my self-adopted sister, is hearing from God and seeing reality from His perspective. I can see hope in her circumstances and hear joy in her conversation. Oh, you just can’t imagine what this does for my soul.

I am so thankful that He knows the longing of my heart even when I don’t.  He is compassionate. His encouragement trumps every doubt and fear that enters my thoughts.  From me, He deserves a round of applause, a platter of warm cookies and milk, and all of the credit for my hopeful soul!

Now that we have actually received this amazing friendship with God, we are no longer content to simply say it in plodding prose. We sing and shout our praises to God through Jesus, the Messiah! Romans 5:11
