Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Answered Prayer

Do you pray and expect an answer? I have to admit that I’m still surprised – pleasantly surprised when I realize God has answered my request. This week, I have been very encouraged. My faith in God’s faithfulness has grown.

Here are just a few of the ways my Papa – God has shown me that He hears me and answers when I call on Him.

Joanne Heim, a sweet friend from Colorado, suffered a major stroke this January. When the stroke happened, I prayed that God would breathe his life into her body. I visualized Elijah laying over the child’s deceased body and breathing into him until he awoke.  Today Joanne is recovering well and in Rehab. (Follow her progress here.) My heart soars when I see that she is tweeting. Just the other day she announced that she had walked. Glory to God! He has breathed His life giving power into her. I am just one of thousands praying for Joanne and her family. But I trust that God heard my cry among the thousands. And I trust that her healing is from a loving, healing, almighty God.

Dad had surgery last week on his lower back. Many of us prayed. I was not able to be in Houston for the surgery which was very hard for me to accept. But God has been teaching me to release my sense of responsibility for the outcome of things to Him. I had a sweet time of prayer with Dad over the phone the day of his surgery. It’s a moment I’ll never forget. His surgery was successful. And I am grateful that God answered my cry for his healing and protection from further damage. I also give Him thanksgiving for doing more for my dad that I will ever know about.

A sweet friend has been searching for answers and solutions to her health problems. We’ve prayed and believed for both. An appointment with another doctor brought a confirmation that is difficult to accept. What do you do with an answer you didn’t want? I trust God is leading and listening. And I’m asking Him for direction on how to continue to pray. I know my prayers make a difference. But I admit that at times, I need more faith in Him for His answer and outcome.

I’ve been asking God to help me grasp the loving sacrifice Jesus made for me on the cross. The answer to this prayer is coming to me through a daily devotion by Charles Spurgeon and reading the beginning of the book of Romans in the Message translation. Neither are a result of me searching out the answer. But I am sure that both are being used by Him to show me the truth. I’m so honored that He wants to reveal Himself to me. I’m so grateful that I can know God and boldly ask for His help.

Just recently, He’s answered even more than these requests. I’ll share more later. Until then – be encouraged by one of my favorite verses on prayer.

while I (Daniel) was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. 22 He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. 23 As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision:… Daniel 9:21-23

Have you seen the answers to your prayers to God lately? What verses from the Bible encourage you regarding prayer?
