Baking & Giving for Jesus’ Birthday

Saturday was a filled with cooking for David, baking for a party, decorating the house for Christmas, an LSU game, and a Christmas party. It was a great BIG O’ DAY!

As I mentioned, I am trying to be more intentional about celebrating Jesus this year in the midst of the hustle & bustle. So while I made the Oreo Turtle Bars, I paused and said … “these are for your birthday Jesus”. It was a small thing, and yet it seemed right.

Jesus gave. During his 33 years on earth, he went about giving to people. He gave them hope, He gave them healing, He gave them food, He gave eternal life, and so much more. He has given me beauty for the ashes of divorce, joy for depression, and the restoration of relationships within my family. He set me free from the desire for the attention of men, and a heart full of praise for Him instead of a mouth full of bitterness.

This Christmas, I want to give the way Jesus did. I want to give freely from a heart that is overflowing with thankfulness to the one who left the perfection of Heaven, lived a common life, displayed the heart of God, and then died a horrific death to make sure I could be a friend of God.

Oreo Turtle Bars - YUM

Saturday, I saved a small portion of the Oreo Turtle Bars I was making for the Christmas party. I put them aside to give to someone who did not expect a gift. And that is the beginning of my Christmas celebration – giving. Not out of decades of habit that you give gifts at Christmas. But giving, because God gave me Jesus and Jesus gave me a life with God.

I’d love to hear how you celebrate Jesus at Christmas. I want to learn from you!
