Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Beside still waters….

It’s Springtime in Louisiana where the live oak trees are larger than life and the grass leads you to the muddy bayou waters. These are the still waters of my youth.

I was fortunate to spend the weekend in my hometown (Meeker, LA which is too small to be a town). There was something about this trip that was new to me. Perhaps this is a benefit of turning 40. I felt as though I were given a fresh glimpse of paradise. Even though people were busy around me, the setting really helped me to relax. It could be that for the first time, going home really settled my soul.

Saturday was the Easter Parade – a parade like no other in my opinion. The weather was perfect and the people were gentile Southerners. Women in hats and freshly starched linen shirts. Men in their jeans or khakkis helping the kids get  ready to show off their bicycles, mopeds, little red wagons, and motorized cars. The Easter Bunny led the parade in a horseshoe driveway with a terrific New Orleans style tempo. (I’d love to own a CD of the music that was played).

I felt like I was in the 2009 edition of Steel Magnolias. Laughter, babies, bubbles and cupcakes! Sugar Kettles, grand stories, easter eggs, and Bloody Mary’s. Hugs, “Hello’s”, and fresh, bayou breezes. Did I mention the sunshine! It made every springtime color come alive.

Thank You, God, for the renewed breath of life that came from attending this event. Thank You, Father, for giving me an earthly family that is at peace, and full of your joy. Thank You for the favor of my physical and spiritual heritage. Thank You for allowing me to share it with my husband.

I am grateful. I am inspired!

About Jennifer O. White

I’m a simple wife who has discovered God’s amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you’ve ever imaged.
