Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Your Strong Defense Against Timidity and Condemnation

The Holy Spirit is quietly and consistently whispering these words to me: You are a Royal Priesthood.

This phrase is found in 1 Peter 2:9 NIV: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

These words are like water dousing the flames that seem to singe my soul.

Why is the Holy Spirit whispering these words to me? And whispering them through me to you?

Our God whose love includes shielding and defending us is arming us against the enemy’s flaming arrows. He is reminding us to put on the helmet of salvation … to think saved thoughts.

We are cherished and chosen. We are saved from a life of condemnation.

The lion of lies roars condemnation against us. What is he saying to you? What has he said to the generations before you?

One of the messages the predator of my soul roars against me and my family before me is that we are subject to the words others use to define us. We have braced against the possibility of those words. We have expected them to diminish us. We have lived hungry for affirmation and been drawn to flattery which is a dangerous trap. We’ve doubted the praise of others was honest or that we could live up to it again.

With His one simple phrase, God is calling my gaze upward to His definition of me.

A royal priest is someone whose worth has been established. A royal priest is deemed worthy of standing before God to praise and petition Him. Because of Jesus, this is my reality and yours. We can allow this truth be our armor, our shield against thoughts and feelings of being small in the eyes of others.

I walk through seasons of timidity before God. I find myself not praying about big things and little things and wonder what happened to my faith and courage.

Evil forces want to choke out the life of prayer I am destined to live. I need protection. I need to fight back.

Psalm 91:4b says, “His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” He sends His Word to heal and deliver us from destruction (Psalm 107:20).

This week, Holy Spirit delivered His healing words to give me a solid foundation to stand on. The words “royal priesthood” are filled with the life and power of our God to heal my thinking, to deliver me from the destructive habit of basing my life on threatening thoughts and words of condemnation.

Let it be so, Lord, in me and in this friend who stopped by to hear You whisper, “You are a Royal Priesthood.”
