Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Do I Treat My Body like a Sanctuary?

I’ve been waking up with this song has been in my heart recently.

I’m positive God put it there encouraging me to pray specifically about being a Sanctuary and learning what that means.

Dictionary.com says that a sanctuary is a sacred or holy place. Now that I am a member of God’s family, He sees me as sacred and holy. Christ’s spirit lives in me so I have taken on his attributes of holiness. My imperfections and weaknesses are covered by Jesus’ blood and I am sanctified. In other words, I am set apart for God.

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit,
who is in you, whom you have received from God?
You are not your own;  you were bought at a price.
Therefore honor God with your body,”
(1 Cor. 6:19-20).

I listened to a podcast by Joyce Meyer yesterday and learned more about the importance of taking care of my body because it the temple or sanctuary of the Holy Spirit of Jesus. I needed this encouragement and I’m very thankful for it.

Do you struggle like me to care for your body? To get enough rest? To eat the right foods? to exercise?  Me too.

But the visual of being the housing of the Spirit of God makes me want to agree with God for all He wants for my body. I want to so that I can serve Him in all the ways He’s planned.

Thank you God for helping me to be more aware of your desires for me and my body. I call out to you to help me honor my body as the housing of Your Spirit. I need your help to make decisions that will preserve me and strengthen me for the sake of Your work here on Earth. Amen

  1. Love this post, darling! In fact, I always enjoy your posts…I just don’t often have the time to comment…you wouldn’t believe how many days I flag my e-mail to get back to a post and make a comment, but end up having to let it go…so please hear me now: I love your blog!!!

Anyway, I am sure it doesn’t surprise you that this post would resonate with me. =-)

Thought you would enjoy this quote I just read LAST NIGHT from The Sexually Confident Wife by Shannon Ethridge…
“There is but one temple in the Universe…and that is the human body. Nothing is holier than that high form. We touch heaven when we lay our hand on the human body.”—Thomas Carlyle, British historian

Now, obviously I do think there are holier things than the human body…The Holy Spirit itself, for example…but Mr. Carlyle does make a good point…these little temples (vessels that house the Holy Spirit, should we ask it in), are made with great care by our Father…they were molded by His very hands! And since He continues to work on us, these Vessels of Clay (now why would you think I love that name?) are continual works of art being touched and molded by Him…malleable and shape-able bringing Him glory as we grow and change!

So, we house the Spirit of Jesus AND we are ever being touched by the Holiest hands EVER?!? How amazing is that!
