Prayerfully Speaking

Hope from the Truths of God's Word

an Evening Prayer

hear from God when you sleep

I’m learning to invite God to interact with me as I sleep. The stillness of our nights is a perfect time to hear from our Lord – the One who shepherds, corrects, heals and delivers us.

For the last several years, the Lord has spoken to me in dreams and visions. Many times the dream is a warning for me or someone else. At first these warnings made me fearful and embarrassed. A dear friend helped me see that these are simply conversations with a good, good Father who desires the very best for me and those I love.

God greatly desires to lead us and protect us. Just yesterday, I was able to share a vision I had with a friend. It was a specific warning to her but I didn’t know the circumstances. She received the warning and later realized God was helping her avoid a bout of depression that was subtly creeping in.

At times, the visions help me receive the gentle discipline of the Lord. Other times, they reveal His presence and power.

With today’s simple prayer, I believe we are opening the door to wonderful encounters with God. My prayer for you is a deeper sense of His presence through dreams, visions and any other means God has prepared personally for you.

God, tonight I choose to adore You. I desire to go to sleep thinking of You and Your goodness toward me. I am so thankful that You are with me as I sleep. While I sleep and when I awake, I’d like to hear Your voice. I want to dream your dreams and see your visions. I welcome Your warnings. I welcome Your messages of hope and direction for my life.

I want my first thoughts in the morning to be from You and about You. Teach me to be still in those quiet moments. Teach me to discern Your voice.

I choose to anticipate tomorrow with great delight because You are already there. I choose to be excited about what tomorrow will bring because You are always good and You are always with me.

Thank You, God, for Your faithfulness to me and love for me. I hide myself in You tonight.

In Jesus, I pray. Amen

Thank you for sharing this. I too have had God meet me in the quiet of my sleep where I am still and I wake up just knowing for certain I am supposed to share with someone, pray specifically or that the Lord is sending me a message about my own life or someone else.
I used to be afraid to act on it or tell anyone but now I am at peace praying and asking God for wisdom when it seems like He is coming to me in my most quiet still time.

    • Christy, I’m celebrating your beautiful relationship with our God! He is so alive. May we continue to be bold in believing and sharing His messages.

Thank you for posting this article. It is a timely confirmation for me. I just had a dream two nights ago, that was a clear warning from the Lord regarding a temptation in my life.

    • What an incredible God we have on our side. I’m so grateful He is leading you away from danger and encouraging you here.
