Prayerfully Speaking

Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Family Heirlooms & Favorite Places

If you were here, I’d invite you into my home office. It’s really more of a sitting/reading room.  I’ve had several of my best “sister girls” join me here for a great chat or prayer. I have a dream of using it for regular Bible study with neighbors I don’t even know yet.

Since you’re not here, I’ll share photos of the room with you so you can enjoy the cozy space and sentimental pieces of furniture I treasure. And maybe you will agree with me in prayer for my dream of hosting Bible studies and prayer groups in that space.

I’m a rural girl down to the CORE. I fell in love with the barn & pasture canvas and my darling husband surprised me with it for my birthday. What a guy! (it wasn’t his favorite, but he bought it for me anyway)

I finally found the farm table to use as a desk at the Ritz Cottage – an upscale consignment shop in Branson. I’ve been looking off and on for the right desk/table since 2007. My friends and Bible study leaders, Kay & Sandy Steward, own this one-of-a-kind shop, and it thrills my soul to have found my desk there.

The green armoire is a family heirloom. It was the pie safe of my great-grandmother, Susan Blackwell Hoyt. My mom remembers it from her childhood, and it was a treasure in our home during mine. I’m so thankful to have it now and I use it as my bookshelf.

My sitting area is known as “Lou’s Room” because sweet Louanne Dietrich donated most of the furniture. She redecorated in a contemporary style and her loss became my gain! What’s funny is we both agree that the random selections she donated made such a  comfy setting in my office.

One more thing about me that you might not know is I love vintage photographs of my family. The wall behind the loveseat is just a small display of my collection. Our rustic home is the perfect place for these black & white (sometimes sepia) pieces of family history. This wall hosts three generations including my mom’s family, my dad, and my husband’s parents.

I wish you could have been here in person. But I enjoyed sharing a little bit of my home and my heritage with you in pictures today.

If you’re ever in my neck of the woods, stop by for a cup of coffee and a visit. It would be my pleasure to share this special room with you in person.

I’ll let you know when the first official (or non-official) Bible study begins so we can celebrate together.

About Jennifer O. White

I'm a simple wife who has discovered God's amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you've ever imaged.

  3. Love it, love it, love it! The green armoire reminds me of my chest of drawers and matching bedside table that I inherited from my Grandmother…it is also green. She was going through a staining and roughing up stage…I forget what you call that…distressing, I think? Anyway, Jon doesn’t like it, but I LOVE IT! I will have to text you a pic…so homey and I love I love the color green…
I typically do my devotionals in my bedroom… make my bed and sit on top…today, however, instead of doing my devo while having hot drink BEFORE my Couch to 5k training run, I slept in, so I decided to do the run first (before it got warmer outside), and did my devo AFTER. In one corner of my bedroom, I have a peaceful nook with a little bookshelf of inspirational books and some yoga stuff…after my shower, I laid down on the floor there in legs-up-the-wall pose and did my devo that way…peaceful serenity and renewal in my limbs!….aaaah.
