Fashion Tips from God

The world is not bashful when it comes to promoting fashion.

It’s easy to get sucked in to caring A LOT about our appearance and how we compare to others we hold up as the “fashionable” people.

I’m not saying fashion is to be ignored. But I do not want to care more about it than I should.

Here are a few tips from the Bible regarding what we wear and how we look.

1. But God told Samuel, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 MSG

2. Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God. Proverbs 31:30

3. So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you:

  • compassion
  • kindness
  • humility
  • quiet strength
  • discipline
  • be even-tempered
  • content with second place
  • quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you.

And regardless of what else you put on,

  • wear love.

It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Colossians 3:14-16

Are there other fashion tips from the Bible that I’ve missed? Add them in the comment section below or share your thoughts on how you work to keep our modern day “fashion” focus in second place.

About Jennifer O. White

I’m a simple wife who has discovered God’s amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you’ve ever imaged.

  1. I love this, God has a fashion clothing store and physical size doesn’t matter. No matter what style of clothing we choose to wear, if we have God’s clothes on everything will look good on us. Thanks for the fun look at how to choose our clothes.

    1. Nita – i love that you brought up physical size. It’s so easy to let this define us instead of who we are IN CHRIST

  2. Good post. Maybe 1 Peter 3:3-6 could be added: a “gentle and quiet spirit” (v. 4).

  3. “And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” — Luke 12: 27
