The Healing Power of God’s Word
Healing is a great need for so many of us. We have emotional, physical, spiritual and relational issues waiting for the Great Physician to intervene. In today’s post, we are going to explore the opportunity to find the healing we need in God’s Word.
What miracle of healing are you waiting for?
I am recovering from a week of acute stomach distress. My colon needs a creative miracle. It is very likely that my emotions have played a big role in creating the need.
You and I can rejoice that we are known by God intimately. He delights in every detail of our lives. He is well acquainted with our grief. His lovingkindness toward us is better than life! Psalm 37:23, Isaiah 53:3, Psalm 63:3
The Power of His Word
Psalm 107:19-20 -“Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death. (emphasis mine)
The previous verses in Psalm 107 tell us their distress was so great they didn’t want to eat. Words healed them. Not just any words, but God’s Word. Here’s more proof for us that God’s Word brings healing:
Proverbs 4:20-22 -My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.
That is a BIG promise. Have you considered God’s Word to be medicine for your body, soul and relationships? I have experienced it myself. When I chose to study and even recite prayers and declarations straight from the Bible, I became stronger physically and emotionally. I became a much better wife.
In Secrets of a Prayer Warrior, Derek Prince describes how the Word of God healed him of a physical illness.
God led me to Proverbs 4:20– 22, what I came to refer to as “God’s medicine bottle.” I purposed to take God’s Word as my medicine three times daily, after meals. After each main meal I would get away by myself, open my Bible, bow my head and say, “God, Your Word tells me that these words of Yours will be health to all my flesh. I take them now as my medicine in Jesus’ name.” In that unhealthy climate of the Sudan, God’s Word brought me perfect permanent health.”
Do you believe this is possible?
If faith is the victory that overcomes the world, then it is important that we believe there is healing power in the Word of God. Thankfully Jesus is the One who gives us faith and we can simply confess our unbelief and ask Him to help us believe more – as modeled by the father whose son was dying in Mark 9:24.
Prayer: Lord help me believe that You will use Your Word to heal me.
Below are two YouTube videos to us help take in the Word of God. I’m so excited for you to experience them! When I listen to them I feel calmer, stronger, and more confident.
Listening to the Word is great. I believe it is also VERY important that His Word be expressed verbally by us because it is the Sword He has given us as a defense in the spiritual realm.
*Note: Please do NOT stop taking your prescribed medicine. Just begin adding God’s Word into your daily medicine regimen. Allow God to work at His pace to heal you in all the ways He intends to. When the healing comes, let it be a beautiful opportunity to share the power of God’s Word with your doctors.
