Heroic Faith: Just Ask for It

Faith in God is Brave

When you read these words: “Faith is the heroic effort of your life”, what rises up in your heart? Is it hard to read  the words faith and hero in the same sentence?

When I first read it, I heard a resounding “YES” in my heart and I just couldn’t walk away from the quote. Staring at the words, I feel relief and validation. I suppose that is evidence of an internal debate between the desire to believe God and fear of the world’s rebuttal.

Everything in me knows this is true. Putting our confidence in an unseen God is very brave.

Heroic is defined as having or displaying the character or attributes of a hero; extraordinarily bold, altruistic, determined, etc.: a heroic explorer.

Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith (Phil 2:8, Heb 12:2). He heroically left heaven and sacrificed His status, His comfort, and His purity for each of us.

If we want our faith in God to be our most heroic effort in life, it just makes sense to talk to Jesus about it. What questions do you want to ask Jesus about your faith? Here are a few conversation starters.

Prayer Prompts:

Thank God for Jesus’ extraordinary boldness during his ministry among the people.

Invite God to reveal and heal the fears that keep you from trusting Him more.

Confess the frailty of your faith and ask for God’s forgiveness.

Ask God to increase your confidence in Him and use you to encourage others to trust Him.

Thank God for being the One Who helps you to believe in Him.

Ask Him to help you choose faith over every other act of heroism the world offers.

Now wait with great expectation for God to answer your prayers.

And without faith it is impossible to please God.
