Hope from the Truths of God's Word

If You Like Me…

At times I get a little nervous that I talk about God and Jesus too much. I begin to imagine that people are wondering if I’m a religious nut with nothing else to do but post Facebook and Twitter messages to encourage others in their faith.  I’ve lost a few Facebook friends because of this very thing. (I’m not surprised really.) But I have to admit that I have moments of hesitation.

The truth is I don’t sit around wondering what to say…….. words about God come pouring out of me. It’s inside me and without trying, it drips out in what I say and write.

Oswald Chambers reminded me of this today….

We are to God the fragrance of Christ . . .” (2 Corinthians 2:15).
We are encompassed with the sweet aroma of Jesus,
and wherever we go we are a wonderful refreshment to God.

I may be weird to some people. But I am not weird to the One that made me.  And to those who also carry the sweet aroma of Jesus, I am welcomed and recognized as family.

Years ago I was in a hospital room with friends. A new patient was admitted to the bed next to my friend and his wife joined him in the room. Within five minutes, I was 90% sure she loved Jesus too. There was a kindness in her eyes and a tone in her voice that made me know she loved others despite who they were and what they did. She loved proactively instead of reactively.

That is what God enjoys about us. We smell like Jesus. Because we said yes to His love, we talk and act like Jesus. His fragrance is noticed and enjoyed by God. And those who know God, recognize the smell.

I don’t have to be concerned about whether you like me or not. I smell good to God!

Because of Jesus, whether you like me, what I say and what I do is none of my business. It’s His.

I'm a simple wife who has discovered God's amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you've ever imaged.

  1. Never apologize for loving Jesus. Never worry about what others may think when you proclaim your love for Him. There were 2 thieves hanging on their crosses with Jesus. One ackowledged Him and went with Him; the other made fun of Him, and was left behind. The psalmist said “may the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be always pleasing to you, O Lord my GOD.”
God will tell you what to say, you just say it. Jesus loves you, and so does Big.

I like you and your face book posts.

Sweet Julie – so grateful. I would worry about the amount of Jesus aroma in me if you didn’t. 🙂

  5. I am so thankful for this post today. As I continue preparing to launch a blog on our website, I often find myself asking, “How many posts have I put up today about Jesus”? Once I launch this blog, people will really think that I am a religious nut.

It is encouraging to know that I am not alone in this thinking. And it is even more encouraging to know that I don’t have to be concerned about whether or not others like me. I smell good to God!

    Thanks for your transparency Jennifer!

Thank you Jody for moving forward for Jesus regardless. It’s great to know we are wearing the same scent – the one that matters to the only One that matters.

  6. I was 48 when I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ. I’ve never turned back because I have a deep passion for His word. I, too, “teach” his word on my blog and in teaching it, I’m learning it.

Forge ahead, don’t stop, don’t look back and you will reach those that the Lord is interested in reaching. As for losing some of your friends, don’t worry, they don’t understand yet and perhaps someone who is teaching the word, will pick up on them.

I’m reaching as far out as Africa and Argentina and a mennonite pastor! Never would I have dreamed I could be “reaching” anyone while I was doing what I liked!
