Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Is Your Fear Justified?

This verse from the Bible caught my attention tonight.

A person’s fear sets a trap for him, but one who trusts the Lord is safe.” Proverbs 29:25

How many times have I fallen into the trap of fear? Fear is pretty basic and common to everyone. Many of us express our fear in different words, different actions, and hide it in unhealthy ways.  But here is the truth:

most fear is a TRAP

and that trap is set by the one who seeks to steal, kill and destroy – the arch enemy of the one who created us in love and in a desire for our company. (John 10:10)

What strategy can you employ to stay out of the traps set by Satan?  Here are a few straight from God’s word…

1. Have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). Those who by faith trust that Jesus is the son of God and has paid the debt we owed because of our sins have inherited the mind of Christ. We have the ability to think the thoughts of Jesus because His Spirit lives within us to bring Jesus’ thoughts to our minds.

2. We have to know the truth about God. There is no other way to know who God is than to first believe in Him and second to read and meditate on what He has said. If we know who He is (His character), we can detect when our thoughts are in agreement with His. And we can recognize when they are not.

Our culture, the media, and influential people try to tell us what is important and what we should fear. But God makes it clear that perfect love drives out fear. He is perfect love. Focus on Him……decrease fear.

No fear exists where his love is. Rather, perfect love gets rid of fear, because fear involves punishment. The person who lives in fear doesn’t have perfect love. 1 John 4:18

The Lord is my light and my salvation. Who is there to fear? The Lord is my life’s fortress. Who is there to be afraid of? Psalm 27:1

I went to the Lord for help. He answered me and rescued me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge. His truth is your shield and armor. You do not need to fear terrors of the night, arrows that fly during the day,  plagues that roam the dark, epidemics that strike at noon.  Psalm 91: 4-6

Even though I walk through the dark valley of death, because you are with me, I fear no harm. Your rod and your staff give me courage.  Psalm 23:4

So…. is your fear justified? Or is it a shadow that has you distracted from the truth? I want to encourage you to ask God to reveal to you His truth about the issue(s) that has you stalled out in fear.
