Life-Giving Relationships (a Simple Prayer)
I bet you are an amazing encourager to people. I’m guessing that in many of your relationships, you excel at loving well and drawing people to the experience of Christ’s love. With your words and acts of gentleness you are giving life.
God has strategically placed encouragers in my life. Recently He has been highlighting for me, the intentional way several people affirm the good they see in me. I am strengthened every time I am exposed to these people. I sense God inviting me to purposefully excel at this life-giving ministry in my relationships.
Lately, I have found myself led by the Holy Spirit to demonstrate God’s compassion for people who are treated like outcasts. Without feeling burdened or worried, I sense His prompting to reach out and speak life. He has also given me an open door to pray over the phone regularly with this friend. God is giving me a front row seat to the life-transforming power of His love in action and I am sincerely filled with joy over it. My heart is pregnant with hope for her.
Maybe you are in a relationship with someone who uses words of strife and acts of contention to express their pain and need for help. I’ve been there recently. My flesh screams for peace and my reaction has been sheer frustration at the negative reactions in spite of my love and sacrifices. Graham Cooke reminded me this week that every problem that comes into my life points to a provision that God is eager to share with me. I’m so thankful He has taught me to find evidence of His unlimited resources and strength in His Word and to access them with prayer.
Today I’d like to share a simple prayer with you inviting God to release His good and perfect gifts for others through each of us.
Lord show me how to help _____ do what is right and build them up in You. Fill my mouth with affirming words. Fill my mind with Your perfect wisdom on how to share the truth with great love. Teach me to demonstrate the high value You place on ______’s life.
Use me to model the peace that comes from living in harmony with You.
You chose to speak to Elijah in a gentle whisper. Thank You for being gentle and kind with me. I need Your Holy Spirit to guide me to do the same with ______.
All things are possible because of Your glorious and unlimited love, resources and power are at work within me.
Victory is in Your hands and I am in You.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
