Loving Jesus and Loving like Jesus

This is a continuation of yesterday’s post – Do You Really Love Jesus? Click here if you haven’t had a chance to read it yet.

Mel Tari instructed the wife to call her husband and say “Honey I really miss you.”  Then he instructed her to go home and prepare his favorite supper the way he enjoyed it. She agreed to this and more. Per Mel’s direction, this wife greeted her husband with a hug and a kiss, served him a wonderful supper, and did all that God instructed her to do.

Her husband was shocked and later told Mel he knew a miracle had taken place because his wife would have never treated him like that. He explained that “this time he knew his wife loved Jesus. Before she would tell me that, but I would never believe her. How could she love Jesus and never love me?  I just couldn’t believe it. But, oh when I saw her like this, I knew she really loved Jesus”

Without one more sermon, the husband repented. He said, “Lord Jesus, I know I have been very rough and cruel to my wife. Jesus, forgive me this and come into my life in Your fullness.”

The Lord restored that family in a very wonderful way. Why? Because this lady instead of spiritualizing everything and making it complicated, just took the Bible in a very simple and practical way.

When I read this portion of Like a Mighty Wind, it stopped me in my tracks. I spent many years with big expectations of people’s walk with Jesus. And what I mean by that is, I was sure they weren’t measuring up like I did. Ouch. That was hard to admit, but it’s the truth. God has been kind to open my eyes to the lies I believed about measuring up in relationship with Jesus. He is slowly helping me peel away the layers of pride and fear.

I want to love simply and practically like Jesus. I want expect mercy from God and give mercy like He does. I want to expect Jesus to empower me with His unlimited resources and own up to my weaknesses so He can.

Do you struggle with loving Jesus like Jesus loves? I am sure He knows, but is ready to talk about it when you are.
