On the Other Side

Snow on the Mountain - Memorial Day Weekend

David and I just recently returned from four wonderful days of vacation in the Denver, Colorado area. We love to explore areas that are new to us. So off we went to see all that we could see in the Idaho Springs/ Mount Evans area. I was amazed at the beautiful snow we drove thru.

Then the next day we visited White Ranch Park which didn’t seem that far away because we could see the snow capped Mount Evans in the distance. See the climate difference in the photos? A cool breeze! That was it. I felt like the two locations were worlds apart.

White Ranch Park - Colorado

It reminded me of a story Beth Moore told in a video associated with one of her Bible Studies. She saw a duck sitting in a puddle of water on a sidewalk. She laughed because the sidewalk was next to a levee and on the other side was a fabulous pond. This duck stopped short of paradise and settled for a puddle.

I do this too. I get tired and discouraged along the way. I am easily distracted from the big picture and I stop just a few minutes,  hours or days away from all God had planned for me.

In preparation for a Bible study on Philippians 4:8, I am learning that my thoughts directly affect my joy. The author of the book , The 4:8 Principle: The Secret To a Joy-Filled Life,  explains choosing my thoughts can put obstacles in my path to joy or clear the obstacles.

Based on the study so far, I am confident that when I “fix my thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. And think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.“, I will not give up too soon and settle for a puddle instead of a pond. Neither will I see a mountain full of snow and assume that for rest of my life I will be snowed in.

  • Would you like to strengthen your faith in what you can’t see and enjoy more of the journey while you travel to the other side?
  •  Are you ready to move a few thought boulders out of the way and participate in all that God has planned for your life?

About Jennifer O. White

I’m a simple wife who has discovered God’s amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you’ve ever imaged.

  1. I so don’t want to settle for a puddle when God’s got a pond for me just over the rise! Thanks for reminding us of that bigger picture. What I think is beyond beautiful of Him is that when we can’t see it (and we usually can’t), He simply wants us to trust that He does. He’s faithful, good, kind, loving, and just. Now that’s something to continually think about. 🙂

By the way, loving the book, The 4:8 Principle. Looking forward to the great discussions that will come from us all studying it together. 🙂
