Praying for God’s Perspective on Prayer

I’m processing all the nuggets on prayer found in the August 28 devotion from My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers. So, I’m praying through each nugget. Feel free to join me.

“Prayer is the way that the life of God in us is nourished.

God, I believe this is true because you are helping me to see it in my own life. Guide me, remind me to pray (talk to you, ask you questions, thank you, etc.) without stopping.

“… the biblical purpose of prayer is that we may get to know God Himself.”

God, I’m sorry for all the times I’ve prayed wanting you to “fix” it for me without considering the prayer need as an opportunity to know you. I want to seek you more than I have so far.

“Ask, and you will receive . . .” (John 16:24) … we actually ask Him for very few things.

You’ve allowed this verse to ring in my ears for months now. Thank you for leading me into a new phase of trusting that I can risk asking you for things. I believe Ephesians 3;20 is true. But you are connecting the dots for me and helping me to ask for Ephesians 3:20 to be true in my life and in the lives of those I know. Thank you!

a child exhibits a magnificent boldness to ask! Our Lord said, “. . . unless you . . . become as little children . . .” (Matthew 18:3).

Thank you for using word pictures that help me relate to your ways. I am feeling safer to come to you as a little child – to believe you are for me and want to help me. Thank you for bringing me to this new place of freedom in my relationship with you. Thank you for your patience with me and mercy that brought me here. I invite you to continue revealing yourself to me in this way.

Give Jesus Christ the opportunity and the room to work

I feel like I’ve been walking in the wilderness for 40 years because I didn’t know how to give you the opportunity to work in so many places. Pride and ignorance kept me from asking for your help. I want to give you the room to work in me. Thank you for being available and willing to work in my life.

Be yourself before God and present Him with your problems.

Thank you for saying this so plainly for me through Oswald Chambers. I can’t be myself without your help to overcome every thing that keeps me from doing this. I celebrate that I am more real with you today than every before, but I desire to explore every way that this is possible. Help me grow in humility so I will be more real with you

God has established things so that prayer, on the basis of redemption, changes the way a person looks at things. Prayer is not a matter of changing things externally, but one of working miracles in a person’s inner nature.

Thank you for the understanding you have given me on praying for your perspective. The quote above helps me really “get it” more. You are changing the way I look at you and for that I am SO grateful. I invite you to work more miracles in my inner nature and I thank you for the ones your life in me is accomplishing. I celebrate that you supply all my needs through Christ Jesus.

Breaking the points of today’s devotion down is helping me meditate on it and take away more from it. I’m looking forward to learning more about God and His ways as I pray for his perspective. I want my faith to double, triple, quadruple from where it is today. I don’t want to go home to Heaven only to find out I could have asked for so much more and what the result of that asking would have been.

Do you struggle with the “asking” and believing you will be “receiving”?

About Jennifer O. White

I’m a simple wife who has discovered God’s amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you’ve ever imaged.
