Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Praying the Scriptures

Oswald Chambers said “The point of prayer is not to get answers from God, but to have perfect and complete oneness with Him. If we pray only because we want answers, we will become irritated and angry with God.”

I am so grateful for the person who introduced me to the concept of praying the words of God. I started with Prayers That Avail Much by Germaine Copeland. Copeland wrote prayers based on specific topics and used within the prayer the Scriptures that applied to the subject matter. It is a book I treasure and recommend to everyone.

I copied certain prayers from this book and others and placed them in a small notebook. I carried this notebook with me to the treadmill, in the car, and on vacation. I was so desperate to pray the right thing. What could be more right than agreeing with what He says.  This time of “fervent” prayer changed me from the inside out. I know God’s will in those specific matters. And as I prayed them relentlessly, I became more sure of God and His truth.

Recently I’ve said to God -“I don’t know what to pray in this situation! All I know to say is your will be done.” Last night, He reminded me to pray the scriptures that relate to the topic. Today I will do the research with thanksgiving that He has given us the gift of answers to life’s issues in His word. I want to agree with Him and what He wants.

We are not here to prove that God answers prayer, but to be living trophies of God’s grace.” Oswald Chambers.

May our God continue to drive you and me to His word. Change us by your truth. Fill in our dark and wounded places with the healing power of your Word. Thank you for loving us so much that you offer your truth, your unlimited grace to each of us for free.  Help us to give you honor by seeking you and your heart in prayer.

About Jennifer O. White

I’m a simple wife who has discovered God’s amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you’ve ever imaged.

Interesting. I have very much been in a place where I felt God saying that I must focus on him in a specific circumstance no matter which way it goes. In my heart I feel He is the only way out. Of course all of the above is always true but often we don’t have what it tskes to put this in action. He impressed on me a few weeks ago Psalm 25. I read (prayed) it just prior to reading your blog this morning. If Psalm 25 is not in your little notebook….I think he is saying “add it”.
