How to Protect Your Mind from Doubt, Anxiety & More
So, in case you were wondering …. yes, I’ve struggled with doubt, anxiety, depression, and mind-numbing fear. I’ve taken meds, changed my diet, seen a counselor, and shared some of my struggles with a handful of people. Why tell you about it? Why risk you judging me, talking about it on the ride home from work? Because it is real. And … I am growing in the freedom of being exactly who I am instead of who I think you think I should be. And … I’m happy for you to know I am more vulnerable than I have pretended to be in the past.
The battlefield of the mind. My battlefield may be similar to yours.
Or yours may look very different – different fears, different doubts, different images on the walls of your mind. It’s hard. I hate it .. and I’m sad that your mind has seen it’s own gruesome battles.
My battles are less intense this year. I’ve been divorcing fear and enjoying more of my life with God. How about you? Has the intensity changed for you lately? More intense? Less? What made the difference?
Here are the verses that helped me see this as a very real truth:
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, – Philippians 2:9-10
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. – Proverbs 18:10
I am praying the name of Jesus over my own mind. In essence, I am putting on the helmet of salvation. I am activating the power of the armor God has provided for me in this battle.
I am confident that my choice to do so is pleasing to God – because I am displaying my faith in Him. I am reaching out in a world crowded with lesser solutions to touch the hem of His garment. I am honoring Him with my confession of need and acknowledging that He wants to meet it and He can.
Will you take a leap of faith and pray the name of Jesus over your own mind?
Will you pray it over the mind of those you know who deal with fear, doubt, depression and more?
Join me in choosing to hope in the power of the name of Jesus.
