Be Extraordinary! Do Something Remarkable!
Somewhere along the way, we begin to believe we must stand out in the crowd. Some basic need to drawing attention to ourselves is fueled by our modern “me” culture. A culture that hopes to sell us the latest gadget, the best house, the safest yet “coolest” car. How many BILLION dollars are spent hoping to sell us something to make our hair, clothes, and body get us noticed. And let’s not forget we need to be brilliant, right!?
Should I spend big money and lots of time to be as great or better than ….. the last advertisement, the neighbor, the competitor?
I searched the Bible for the words “ordinary” and “extraordinary” and here’s what I found:
Acts 4:12-14 – NIV
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say.
Acts 19:11 – NIV
God did extraordinary miracles through Paul…
So…. God does extraordinary miracles through ordinary people. God is extraordinary, supernatural.
You and I can buy all the products and education in the world to get ahead and be “Great”! But when our focus is on ourselves, we might miss the remarkable beauty of the one who has the power to:
- make a billions people incredibly unique
- hold the universe in place
- create life where there is death
- use the simple and ordinary to show the world who He is.
May God forgive us for every moment we have wasted trying to turn the world’s eyes on ourselves instead of Him. May He empower us with the courage we need to be different – to be purposefully ordinary. May everything we say and do be for the purpose of showing Him off to the world so that the world may know that He is extraordinary.
