Stand! Your Battle Posture

spiritual warfare in marriage

In 2006, I was standing in the battle and hanging on for dear life!

I’ve been busy writing Prayers for New Brides: Putting on the Armor After the Wedding Dress. This week, I tackled explaining the spiritual armor in this battle. Yes, battle. We, you and me, are in a battle with the enemy of our souls. And if you are married, your marriage is a target.

You might be thinking, “well that’s why I feel so beat up all the time!?” Yes, that is exactly why. Until we are with God in the perfection of Heaven, we will be in a fight.

Thankfully, as a Christ follower, we are enlisted and led by the Victorious One.

In Ephesians chapter six, we find specific instruction us to stand in this spiritual battle.Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. V 11

Therefore take the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. v 13

Imagine fighting a war sitting down? Seems like a ridiculous idea, right? Your fight for your marriage is not something you can put on hold while you pursue some other honorable mission. Sitting down on this one is not an option. You will get plowed down by a mighty force if you do not follow the instructions of the only One Who has the power to defeat the enemy. God tells us to STAND.

Standing as a victorious warrior bride in a spiritual battle for your marriage is holding your position. It’s a courageous stance proclaiming that you are confident in the One fighting for you. As you stand, you are exercising your faith in Jesus to not only defeat satan, but to also strengthen you to endure the attack.

The Imperfect Wives have asked me to share more on this posture of standing in the spiritual battle. Join me Tuesday, September 3rd at 9am cst for the Imperfect Wives live blog talk radio broadcast. The event will be recorded. You can go back to this link to listen anytime after the show.

About Jennifer O. White

I'm a simple wife who has discovered God's amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you've ever imaged.

Standing up for the battle too in confidence knowing that God goes before me AND protects my back too. Romans 8:31 “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” Try as he may, the evil one can not destroy my marriage unless I take my eyes off Jesus and let him.
    Love your blog sweet Jennifer!!

    1. Nancy – God is for you and He is mighty to save! You are exactly right – Keep Your eyes on Him. What is impossible for men and women is possible for God . You are His beautiful bride. I’m so proud of you for standing!

Loved what you have shared here! How very true. Sometimes when battle worn, we can be tempted to “sit”. It is at that very time we must fight the urge & stand! Thank you for sharing this today. I visited from Wed. Prayer Girls & am grateful that I did!

    Standing,

    1. Joanne, I’m so glad to meet you here today. Thank you for confirming this temptation to sit. Another friend said yesterday on this subject, eating ice cream always feels right when we emotionally choose it, but not usually afterwards. (Isn’t that true!) Sitting verses standing is like that. In our own strength, sitting is natural. The fight is TOO much. But with God’s strength empowering us, we can stand – eyes on Him. Keep standing.

Hi Jennifer! I am coming over from Wednesday Prayer Girls.

I think the standing position means we have to be ready. Sitting is relaxing, and we can’t afford to do that for very long. Especially in marriage, living with the same person for a long time is challenging!

Blessings on your blog-cast! Nice to meet you today.

    1. Ceil. Great to meet you today. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Standing – meaning being ready – engaged – is so right. We can’t sit this one out. May our Lord continue to pour out His riches for your marriage!
