The Power of a Shared Testimony, Part 2
In Part 1 of the Power of a Shared Testimony, Esther Hawkins began to share her Mother’s Day message that inspired this unofficial mom. Today’s post has us looking into the mirror of our fear and circumstances with the question…….. “Will I believe?”.
In verse 30, Gabriel prophesies over Mary, “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
We can assume, under the circumstances that Mary has a heart after God; a loving relationship with Him in which He sees in her a heart that is humble, trustworthy and deeply devoted to Him. And yet, despite the fact that this big angel in her living room has just prophesied over her, she is inclined to question and doubt.
I can’t imagine that the angel was perturbed. We don’t see him waver, ‘oh, well, hmmmm, good point there Mary. Let me just fly back to Heaven and make sure God knows about that little glitch in His plans.”
How many of us, when we receive a word of encouragement from God, from His word or maybe from another person, immediately begin to question it and to point out all of the impossibilities in His plan? It takes a leap of faith and a security in knowing who God is, and our identity in Him, to hear the word and quietly stand upon it when our circumstances rage around us trying to convince us that things will never change.
So, here we are, just a few verses in and honestly Mary sounds like many women I know; scared, insecure and full of doubts.
Clearly something needed to happen before Mary’s destiny could be fulfilled.
I can see myself in Mary’s insecurity and doubts. Just this week I have questioned my ability to fulfill what I’ve been asked to do. What about you? Are you inclined to question and doubt? What will it take for me and you to cross the chicken line into the plans He has waiting for our lives? Part 3 of The Power of a Shared Testimony is worth waiting for. Stay tuned.
Lord, shine your light of truth on our fear and doubts today.
