Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Waiting to Serve

Yesterday I posted this powerful quote by David Platt in the book Radical:

“God’s design for taking the gospel to the world is a slow, intentional, simple process that involves every one of his people sacrificing every facet of their lives to multiply the life of Christ in others.

Why would God’s plan be “slow”? Isn’t this a BIG deal to Him? Doesn’t He want us to get going? not waste another minute? People are dying and living without Him today. Shouldn’t we be pursuing His plan at WARP speed?

In the words below, Julie Gorman, a dear friend I’ve only met online so far, shares her passion for sharing Jesus. See how “SLOWLY” this vision of taking the gospel has been fulfilled in her life.

In 1994, God prompted my heart that I would minister in Kiev, in the Ukraine. Who would have ever thought it would take nearly sixteen years before I actually travelled there? But, that’s often how God’s promises work. He calls us, commissions us, and then graciously commands us to wait. Wait for His refining. Wait for His divine connections. Wait. Wait. Wait.

Abraham waited nearly 25 years before Isaac. Simeon waited for his hope to behold The Messiah. And, each one of us, wait for promises to be fulfilled. But, our hope will not be disappointed. Isaiah 49:23 says, “…those who hope in me will not be disappointed.” (NIV) and Isaiah 40:31 encourages us that “those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

What are you hoping for? What are you waiting on?

Allow me to encourage you today, God continues to teach me that HE CAN BE TRUSTED, He never disappoints, and He is never late. Isaiah 46:9-10 says, “Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”[1]

This year marks the second year of ministering in the Ukraine…and I suspect it’s just the beginning.

Julie waited from 1994 to 2010 before seeing her God-given desire to take the gospel and make disciples there was fulfilled. She submitted to God’s timing.

She leaves this weekend for her second trip to Kiev. Please be in prayer for her.

About Jennifer O. White

I’m a simple wife who has discovered God’s amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you’ve ever imaged.

  1. Ohhhh, where’s the “relate” button! We’re currently in the application process to eventually serve in South Asia. And it’s already taking twice as long as we “thought” it would. With no end in sight.

Jessica. Thanks for sharing your “wait” to serve. I trust God’s timing for you.
