Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Whose Dream is This Anyway?

Do you let yourself dream? Do you have a specific idea or plan that can only happen if God get’s involved?

Dreams are fun. They seem to bring joy and energy to our days.

At the James River Women’s Conference, Christine Caine gave a compelling talk on dreams. She did a little  hand spanking when she suggested that we enjoy the conception stage of dreaming big dreams over the birthing process. Ouch!

How do you know if this dream is an idea you conjured up in your mind or if God planted it there? I’ve got the beginnings of a theory that MIGHT answer that question.  Here goes…..

Will the fulfillment of the “dream” in some way accomplish these activities:

  • Isaiah 1:17: Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.
  • Isaiah 58:6-7:  “No, this is the kind of fasting I want:  Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry,
and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

Test your dream. Who benefits if your dream becomes reality?  What is the outcome?  Jesus’ mission was powered with a selfless motive. Is mine? Is yours?  And what if the dream is “right on” but the motive isn’t………yet.

So, let’s ask Him. Let’s invite God to give  wisdom and revelation regarding this specific desire within us. I sincerely believe He is happy to hear us say, “I want what you want, but help me to want it more.”  Ask His spirit to activate you.  To give you His spirit of endurance and long-suffering to birth the dream He has planted within you.

Remember – He is able through His mighty power ….at work in usto accomplish…infinitely more than we can ask or imagine!

About Jennifer O. White

I’m a simple wife who has discovered God’s amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you’ve ever imaged.

You and Lyn are great to post things from Isaiah that keep me going back. And Christine Caine had us there as well a few weekends ago. Tell me about your dream.

  3. Wow! Thanks for asking.

Well, I’ll start with my mission statement which I recently developed that pretty much sums it up:

To be a voice, both written and audible, that unapologetically points to Christ and His sovereignly redemptive love and forgiveness.

In literal form, I would say my dream is and always has been to write and/or speak for the Lord. I have thought many times I had the details of how that would play out all figured out, only to find out I was a bit off from what He intends. Then, I went on a bit of a run-from-God trip and abandoned that dream for a few years. Once I came face to face with Him in a very new and very real way through some really tough and hopeless times, I began to realize more of what that dream may play out to be in my life. I have been reconciled to God through Christ’s work on the cross and then I have even been accepted by Him in spite of my deliberate shunning of Him and His ways. That is the message I long for others like me to know and hear and experience in the most real way possible as I have.

My dream is to bring a real, honest perception on my Sovereign, Holy, Forgiving, Loving God to as many people as He intends for and allows me to reach. And, to help people see the need to delve into figuring out more specifically what they believe (or don’t believe) and why (or why not)…not just relying on what they grew up being taught, how their parents think/thought, what society says, etc. That is why I have been falling in love with apologetics recently.

And to add to that (and this is a BIG *dream*), I would love to basically not have to have a full-time job separate from my work and ministry for the Lord. I currently have been learning to appreciate my job and even see it as a ministry while the Lord has me still working in the “secular” work force. However, I would LOVE to be employed in a way that freed up my time for writing and ministry and even family much more. Would love to homeschool my son, for instance.

Only God knows His plans for me, and I know they are far greater than I could ask for or imagine…*dreams*

  4. …a heart gripping title i must say. Thank you for sharing this. Happy Friday!
