Hope from the Truths of God's Word

Why Bother? Why Not?

I’m reading Radical by David Platt.  It’s a powerful book and I recommend EVERYONE read it.

Today while reading, I am struck by the story of a man living in the devastated African bush. His life was full of loss. He lost his family as well as hundreds of brothers and sisters in Christ. He had almost no resources. He had never seen the world. Yet He desired to impact the world by making disciples of all the nations.  When asked why, his answer… “why not?”.

How could he know this much hope?  It was not a natural hope.  It had to be God’s “super”natural truths living in him, growing in him regardless of his circumstances.

Last week at the C3 Conference, I learned from Steven Furtick that the enemy is always ready to steal our hope with the thought “why bother”.  That was such an AHA moment for me. How many times have I thought “why bother” when I am about to pray about something?  It’s a faint subtle thought that I consciously don’t really hear – but somewhere in me – those words trample on my God directed desires.

Can you relate to this? Do you hear “why not” or “why bother” more often?

How do we overcome the “why bothers” and live the “why nots”?

One of the sweetest gifts the Father has given me is the self-discipline to remove much of the world’s words by focusing on His words.  It may seem radical to you, but I don’t watch the news and I mainly listen to Christian radio. I try to catch a Joyce Meyer broadcast daily and I read Christian books.

I want to hear about HIM. I want to grow my focus on His presence, His power – His reality.

My faith gets bigger every time I hear the true stories of God’s intervention in a life. I am guessing yours does too.  Give us all a vitamin shot for our faith today. Share your “why not?” super-natural God accomplishing more than you can dare ask or think story with us here.

About Jennifer O. White

I’m a simple wife who has discovered God’s amazing gift of prayer. Here at Prayerfully Speaking I share my journey of unwrapping this gift. God invites us to ask Him, but His enemy works diligently to keep that from happening. I hope to offer you encouragement to believe God is ready to pour more into your life than you’ve ever imaged.
