Speaking Words of Life: My Mission, My Prayer
I want my words to count. I know how to flatter and how to encourage, but in this day and age I don’t believe that is enough. People are walking wounded all around us. Most of them are not sharing how much the white noise of the enemy is at work in their minds and lives. They are listening carefully to see if I agree with those doubts and discouragements. They are holding their breath to see if I might see something different in them.
God’s life and resurrection power are in His Word. We are missionaries carrying the healing and delivering power of His life. I wrote today’s prayer to help both of us move deeper into God’s calling to speak words of life to others.
God, I ask that You change my heart so that my words build Your kingdom in myself, my family, friends and beyond. I know how to say sweet things to make someone feel good. But I sense the time is short and my words need to accomplish much, much more.
I need to be braver, bolder. I want to be intentional.
Holy Spirit fill me with wisdom of what to say and the courage to say it. Show me the fears that are hindering my boldness and help me to leave them in the past. Make me willing to speak the truth in love in the same way You addressed the woman at the well.
Help me not to be distracted with busyness and lesser things. I want my focus to be on You, the Giver of life, the Encourager, the Wonderful Counselor, the Spirit of Wisdom and Insight. I want to hear Your Words to me so that I have life-giving words to offer others.
Train me to keep my heart tuned to what You are saying even when I’m surrounded by people talking. You are mysteriously wonderful. I believe You have the power to help me hear You and stay engaged in the conversation.
By Your power, I will be quick to listen and slow to speak. With Your heart activated in mine, I will talk less so that I don’t stumble into sin. Convict me, Lord, so that I am aware of my need to impress others. I want my boasting to be about You, not me.
I want to see Your goodness at work in someone else and celebrate it with them. I want to my words to paint rainbows in people’s thoughts so they are filled with hope that Your promises for them are a reality. Speak through me, Lord.
Thank You for waking me up to the power of my words. I choose to clothe myself with the strength of Your Word. I choose to speak life to myself and others. I will wait expectantly for Your help. I will wait and see the good result of this work I get to do with You in Your kingdom.
In Jesus, I pray. Amen
