Have you ever wondered how to pray when your heart longs to be restored? When you’re desperate to see God’s supernatural abundance flow into the broken, barren places of your life? The good news is—you’re not alone. And even better—God’s Word is filled with promises of restoration and double portions for those who trust in Him. Have you been praying for double portions? Let’s proceed with worship of the God of this level of generosity and mercy!
The Bible Reveals the Abundance We Receive from God Through Prayer and Restoration
One of the most powerful verses in the Bible about God’s restoring nature is found in Isaiah 61:7:
“Instead of your shame you shall have double honor,
And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion.
Therefore in their land they shall possess double;
Everlasting joy shall be theirs.”
(Isaiah 61:7 NKJV)
What a Promise!
I first discovered this beautiful verse while working through Breaking Free by Beth Moore. It stopped me in my tracks—this idea that God doesn’t just give back what was lost but pours out double. He restores, multiplies, and honors where shame once ruled. I began praying for double portions with a very hopeful heart.
Jesus: Our Restorer
When you read all of Isaiah 61, you see a stunning prophecy of Jesus’ ministry. This chapter is overflowing with divine generosity:
- Healing for the brokenhearted
- Comfort for those who mourn
- Beauty instead of ashes
- Joy in place of despair
- Restoration of ruined cities and generations
- A new identity as “priests of the Lord”
And it doesn’t stop there. In Psalm 23:3, we’re reminded that our Good Shepherd is also our soul restorer:
“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:3 ESV)
In Joel 2:25, we see our Lord restoring what the locusts have eaten. We even see that God himself sent those locusts to destroy. This is such beautiful evidence of the mercy we receive from God after a time of His discipline.
“So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten,
The crawling locust,
The consuming locust,
And the chewing locust,
My great army which I sent among you.”
If you’re wondering how to pray when you feel empty or overlooked, start here: pray for restoration, for multiplied blessings, and for the double portion only God can give. Perhaps our God wants to lead you through repentance and discipline in order to be ready for those blessings. All we have to do is seek Him for wisdom and wait for it. (James 1:5)
The Abundance We Receive from God: Examples in Scripture
Throughout Scripture, we see God’s pattern of restoration and multiplication. I think it is very interesting to notice the common denominator in these events seems to be how close to God the people were at the time. It reminds me of God’s promise to draw near to us when we draw near to Him. (James 4:8; Jeremiah 29:13)
🔹 Abraham and Sarah – Multiplied Descendants
“I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven…”
(Genesis 22:17 ESV)
🔹 Job – Double for His Loss
“The Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.”
(Job 42:10 AMP)
🔹 Jesus – Multiplied Food for Thousands
Let’s do the math. Jesus fed over 15,000 people (5,000 men, plus women and children) with just 5 loaves and 2 fish. That meal could have fed maybe 7 people under normal circumstances. But Jesus increased it by over 214,000%. Talk about the abundance we receive from God!
“So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.”
(Matthew 14:20 NKJV)
🔹 God’s Overflowing Response to Our Giving
God’s generosity is beyond description. As we serve Him, His response to our faith and obedience often exceeds what we offer.
“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over [with no space left for more]. For with the standard of measurement you use [when you do good to others], it will be measured to you in return.”
(Luke 6:38 AMP)
Double Portions: More Than We Can Imagine
Since 2006, this one Scripture has greatly shaped the way I believe, pray, and dream:
Ephesians 3:20 (AMP)
“Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us,”
This verse reminds me that God’s ability is not limited by our imagination. His abundance goes beyond our needs, beyond our losses—even beyond our wildest prayers. That is the nature of our God: superabundant, immeasurable, and always working on our behalf.
